Description / Inspiration: This piece is latex paint on MDO board with a fabricated steel “Meth Not Even Once” logo in the bottom right corner. In the left corner, it depicts a boxer on a black background surrounded by flickers of light glowing from her gloves as she protects the light from an unknown darkness. The words “Defend the light you fight for” appear in white between the boxer and the “Meth Not Even Once” logo. I was inspired to paint this by my experience boxing and coaching boxing. It is a semi-autobiographical image, based on my 2021 match. I am passionately against drug use and I believe that boxing is a metaphor for the fight needed by all to protect their inner light from the danger, trauma, and community damage caused by meth use.
